Here are some great tips on how to maintain your garden and look after the local wildlife during the cold winter months…
- Create natural food for wildlife by planting native trees and shrubs such as guilder rose, holly and yew, and provide feed for the birds
- Stop feeding your pond fish and remove, clean and service pond pumps
- Replace summer bedding in borders with winter flowering pansies, polyanthus, tulips and daffodils
- Cut down dead perennials
- Bring in your tender potted plants like geranium
- Add more colour and life to your winter garden by planting evergreens, red dogwood, yellow willow and winter-blooming shrubs like witch hazel
- Apply winter mulch to protect the soil from driving rain and prevent weeds
